The DUTCH Complete (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) is the most detailed hormone test available to clinical practitioners. Unlike a standard blood test that captures hormone levels at a single moment in time, the DUTCH test measures hormone metabolites throughout the day, providing a comprehensive picture of how hormones are being produced, used and cleared by the body.
Standard hormone blood tests measure the amount of a hormone circulating in the blood at the moment of the blood draw. The DUTCH test measures what the body actually does with those hormones: how they are metabolised by the liver, which pathways they travel through, and whether those pathways are protective or potentially problematic.
For women dealing with unexplained hormonal symptoms, PCOS, perimenopause, severe PMS, low libido, adrenal fatigue or thyroid dysfunction, the DUTCH test frequently reveals patterns that standard testing completely misses.
Hormonal symptoms not explained by standard blood tests
PCOS: wanting to understand the specific androgen picture
Suspected oestrogen dominance or poor oestrogen metabolism
Perimenopause or early menopause symptoms
Fatigue and cortisol disruption
Sleep issues potentially driven by cortisol or melatonin patterns
Low libido or testosterone-related symptoms
PMS or PMDD, particularly severe or treatment-resistant
The DUTCH Complete measures: oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA and their metabolites; cortisol and cortisone throughout the day and evening; melatonin; organic acid markers including B12 markers, neurotransmitter metabolites and oxidative stress markers.
The test is done at home using simple dried urine samples collected at specific times across a day. The kit is sent to you directly. Once your results are back (typically within two to three weeks), we have a dedicated one-hour results review session where I walk through every finding and build your personalised plan.
The cost of the DUTCH Complete including the results review with Kat is £270. This includes the test kit, laboratory analysis, a full clinical interpretation and a written protocol.
The DUTCH test uses dried urine samples collected on small filter paper strips at four to five time points across a day and evening. No blood draw is required. The kit is posted to you, you collect your samples at home and return them to the laboratory in the prepaid envelope.
For pre-menopausal women, the DUTCH Complete is typically done in the luteal phase: around days 19 to 22 of a 28-day cycle. This captures progesterone at its peak and gives the most informative picture. If your cycles are irregular, Kat will advise on timing.
The DUTCH test can be done on HRT and is particularly informative for women on HRT as it shows how the exogenous hormones are being metabolised. For women on the combined pill, the results are more limited as the pill suppresses natural hormone production.
A standard blood test measures the level of hormones at one point in time. The DUTCH test measures hormone metabolites in urine collected across a day, showing not just how much hormone is present, but how it is being processed by the liver and which metabolic pathways are active.
